Multiple East Texas school districts affected by UIL realignment
EAST TEXAS (KLTV/KTRE) - The UIL has released their school realignment cutoff numbers for the 2024-2026 school years. According to the UIL reclassification and realignment numbers, several East Texas schools have changed in the rankings. Notably, Longview ISD has moved to 6A, Longview Pine Tree has moved to 4A division 1, and Jacksonville has moved to 5A division 2.

Multiple area schools will host basketball tournaments this weekend. There will be the Great East Texas Shootout in Brownsboro, the Brook Hill Invitational in Bullard, the Holladay and McCoy Insurance Frankston Invitational in Frankston and the Cody Sell Invitational in Alto.

J’ville jolts Ladycats on Black Friday
, The Mexia girls basketball team ran into a buzzsaw the day after Thanksgiving and lost a 60-24 decision at Class 4A state-ranked Jacksonville on Friday, Nov. 24. Jacksonville is ranked No. 5 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll this week and improved its record to 10-0. Mexia dropped to 3-5. The home team raced out to a 16-2 lead after one quarter. They scored the first 18 points of the second quarter and led 34-2 before going into halftime with a 38-5 advantage. Jacksonville led 50-11 after three quarters. They forced Mexia into 31 turnovers and committed just 10 turnovers. Faith Abron paced Mexia with eight points. Deyonna Davis added seven points. Mariah Hall scored four points and Mackenzie Harris had three points. Gwen Johnson had two points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. Tia Fuller led Jacksonville with a game-high 15 points. Mexia was scheduled to play Corsicana on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The Ladycats will return to action Friday, Dec. 1, when they travel to Waxahachie Life for a 6:30 p.m. contest. It will be their final non-district tuneup. They open District 20-3A play Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Groesbeck.
Girls Basketball Notebook: Jacksonville's Tia Fuller takes weekly honor
Jacksonville’s Tia Fuller has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Girls Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played Nov. 20-25. Fuller averaged 21.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in wins over Frankston and Mexia.
