Roxbury Veterans: Act Now for Lake Hopatcong Cruise Seats

ROXBURY, NJ – Fewer than 10 spots for Roxbury veterans remain available for this year’s Lake Hopatcong Veterans Cruise, so those who want to participate need to sign-up soon.

Roxbury resident veterans wishing to attend the June 29 event must contact Michele O’Halloran at Roxbury Town Hall to sign up. They can either call her at (973) 448-2002 or email her at ohalloranm@roxburynj.us .

“This is the eighth year that Lake Hopatcong Cruises has generously offered this free cruise exclusively to local veterans as a way to thank them for their service,” O’Halloran said. The veterans get a trip around the lake on the Miss Lotta, a 57-foot-long Skipperliner.

“Two separate cruises are offered to serve the four towns surrounding Lake Hopatcong,” she explained.  “The 9 a.m. cruise is for Hopatcong Borough and Jefferson Township resident veterans, and the 11:30 a.m. cruise is for Mount Arlington and Roxbury Township resident veterans.”

O’Hallran said each town gets 24 spots for its veterans. The cruises leave from the “Miss Lotta” home port at Nolan’s Point (37 Nolan’s Point Park Road, Lake Hopatcong). The boat takes them by “various points of interest, including lots of cheering residents waving American flags from the shoreline,” noted O’Halloran.

Afterward, the veterans will get a free lunch at the Lake Hopatcong Elks Lodge on Howard Boulevard in Mount Arlington. As many as three friends or family members can join them for lunch. Free parking and a complimentary shuttle to and from Nolan’s Point will also be provided, O’Halloran said.

“If you have a friend or family member who is a Roxbury resident veteran that is interested in this special event, please encourage them to RSVP as soon as possible for an opportunity to ride on the largest boat on the largest lake in New Jersey,” she said.
