Roxbury High School Baseball and Softball Teams Advance in County Tournaments

ROXBURY, NJ – The Roxbury High School baseball and softball teams on Saturday enjoyed decisive wins in Morris County Tournament action.
The bigger victory went to the softball team which played Madison in a second-round game. The Gaels crushed the Dodgers 8-1 for their fourth win of the season. Their record so far is 4-7.
During the game, Savanna Cirella scored three runs, Sidney Ribnicky got three hits and four RBIs. The sophomore also pitched, getting five strikeouts and allowing only two hits from the Madison batters.
Roxbury now moves on to quarterfinal round action in the tournament.
The baseball team on Saturday beat Morris Catholic 4-1 in Morris County Tournament preliminary round competition.
The win brought the 10 th -seeded Gaels record to 6-6 and set them up for a May 3 first-round tournament game against seventh-seeded Montville.
Joseph Ronchetta got two hits while Ryan Johannessen and Matt Capko got one hit each. Pitcher Kyle Phillips, a junior, threw 11 strikeouts during the contest.
In other county tournament action, the Roxbury High School girls lacrosse team is scheduled to take on the rival Randolph team on May 1. It will be a second-round battle asboth the eleventh-seeded Gaels and the sixth-seeded Rams had preliminary round byes.
Roxbury, coached by Kevin Bewalder, is 6-3 so far this year. Randolph is 4-7.
