Fayette District Judge Denotra S. Gunther on Thursday dismissed a charge of distributing obscene matter to a minor against Henry Clay football coach Phillip Hawkins, according to a court document posted Friday. The Fayette County Attorney’s office on Thursday filed a motion to dismiss the charge and on Friday afternoon, Gunther’s order was included in online court files. Her order noted Hawkins denied the allegation and that “prosecutors could not prove facts necessary to support a conviction.” Hawkins was accused in court records of showing images of a nude woman to some of his players, who were minors. The motion filed in Fayette District Court says prosecutors are not trying to claim that Hawkins didn’t show the photographs. However, prosecutors say the photographs would not rise to “obscene material,” so they can’t support the criminal charge. According to an August citation in online court records, “multiple juvenile victims” said that on April 20, Hawkins, knowing they were minors, showed them photos of a nude woman. The location of the violation is listed as 2100 Fontaine Road, the address of Henry Clay High School. Reached via text in August by the Herald-Leader, Hawkins defended himself against the allegation. “It’s a ridiculous
