People tell Entergy they don't want Meta power line on their property
JENA — Rapides High School teacher Danielle LeBouef said her family used every last cent they had to buy a rural property so her three children could grow up safe. Now Entergy wants to run a transmission line through her front yard to power the $50 billion Meta data center being built in Richland Parish, and she has questions. She's not alone, either. On Thursday night, about 100 people gathered at the Jena Community Center to ask questions about the project. It was hosted by the Louisiana Landowners Coalition , a group that started after founder Dustin McAnn spotted surveyors on his property and later learned about the proposed line's route. The Meta project, named Hyperion, would be the company's largest data center. As described on its website , the parent company of Facebook states it "will be part of our global infrastructure that brings Meta technologies and programs to life, making the future of human connection possible. "This data center will play a vital role in accelerating our AI progress, delivering 5 gigawatts of compute capacity to house Hyperion, our largest multi-gigawatt AI cluster." The transmission line, known as the West Fork Creek to Boeuf 500kV transmission project, would

Rapides Parish eateries cited for critical health violations
The Town Talk obtained food safety inspection information for Aug. 30-Sept. 12 from the Louisiana Department of Health. The top addresses with the most critical violations are listed, along with an explanation of the findings. All restaurants on the list had at least two critical violations. According to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, uncorrected critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination or illness. Less serious violations are not directly related to foodborne illness but could become hazardous if uncorrected. The Louisiana Department of Health's retail food health inspections dashboard includes a history of each establishment's inspection reports. Inspections should be considered a "snapshot" and might not always reflect an establishment's day-to-day operations and overall condition. Violations fall into two main categories: critical and non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute directly to food contamination or illness if left uncorrected. Non-critical violations are not directly related to the cause of foodborne illness but could become critical if left uncorrected. The DHH dashboard is updated daily; however, there is a seven-day delay between when inspections are made and posted online. Check eatsafe.la.gov for the most recent inspection information available and information on how to file a

Clergy to hold prayer vigil at Alexandria staging facility Thursday
Clergy from across the country will gather at England Airpark at 1 p.m. Thursday for a prayer vigil at the new family migrant staging facility. Parking will be available at the Community Center, 1718 Kegelman Blvd. “It is a public event. All are welcome,” said the Rev. DC Sills of Alexandria. “The Interfaith Walking Vigil is being held to provide a place for public lament over the opening of the detention center and to also pray for those who will be detained there and those who work there. We will walk and pray for their safety, peace and that show grace and mercy to each other.” Participants will spend about 10 minutes walking to the facility site, then gather across the street for 15 minutes of prayer. “This will be a peaceful, prayerful gathering on public land,” the flyer states. "As the child and family detention center nears opening, Thursday's walking vigil will make space for grief, prayer, and lament,” said Pastor Leigh Rachal, executive director of Louisiana Interchurch Conference. “We will hold all of our immigrant neighbors in our hearts as we give voice to our hope for a different way forward."
