Two more adults arrested in New Llano shooting
New Llano, LA (KPLC) - Two additional suspects involved in the shooting at Adolph’s in New Llano earlier this month are in custody at the Vernon Parish Jail. The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Joseph Devon Alvin Smith, 21, and Jalyn Thurman, 21, for their involvement in the shooting on March 7.
400 athletes to participate in Vernon Parish Special Olympics
Rosepine, La. (KPLC) - The 2023 Vernon Parish Special Olympics is set for Friday, March 31, at the Rosepine High School football stadium, and 413 athletes will represent all 18 of the parish’s schools. The free event will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

DeRidder establishes hearing process to address adjudicated properties
The city of DeRidder has established a hearing process that will expedite the process of addressing potential code violations of properties. While property owners are ultimately responsible for taking care of their own properties, the city now has a cost-effective adjudicative hearing process that allows them to “enforce remedies in the event property owners allow their properties to become blighted to the extent the properties’ conditions could negatively impact the public’s safety, health and/or welfare,” said Martin Scott, city of DeRidder Code Enforcement.

BEAUREGARD PARISH, LA (KPLC) - Beauregard Parish Schools has a new superintendent after a special meeting was held on Tuesday, March 21. Larry Hollie was announced as the new superintendent after serving as the interim superintendent since Timothy Cooley retired in January of 2023.
Mother of toddler who died in Lee County house fire speaks about her son
BEAUREGARD, Ala. (WTVM) - A 19-month-old died following a house fire in Lee County Saturday morning. Multiple agencies, including deputies, investigators, and the Beauregard Volunteer Fire Department, responded to assist. Five people were able to escape the fire, but authorities could not save the boy, who was less than two years old.

Jonathan Graham Wins Bass Cast Kayak Series event on Leesville Lake with 78.25″
The Bass Cast Kayak Bass Series kicked off our season with 29 anglers braving a chilly and windy event on Leesville Lake. It was a rough day for some of our anglers, but a great day for our winner, Jonathan Graham, who took home $260.00 with 78.25”. Robert Clements took second place with 75.25”, and Chris Poe was in third with 73.00”. Adam Flint caught the largest bass of the day at 23.75”, and took home the $130 Big Bass pot.

Harvesting the power of the sun: New 2,000-acre solar farm in Beauregard to begin at end of 2023
Solar farms are cropping up across Louisiana as part of the plan to shift the state toward a clean, renewable and resilient power grid. At the end of this year, construction is scheduled to begin on the installation of solar panels on an approximately 2,000-acre site in Singer. These panels will absorb energy from the sun, generate an electric current and distribute energy via power lines.
