ROGERSVILLE, Mo. – The Logan-Rogersville School District currently holds one world record and they are aiming to make it two.

On Wednesday, students attempted to break the world record in the largest game of “follow the leader,” where they were able to include 2,362 students. The old record was set in 2015 at 768 people.

In 2011, students set the Guinness World Record for the largest game of Duck, Duck, Goose with 2,135 participants. The current seniors were kindergarteners during this time.

Current Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Katzin was the Elementary Principal in 2011. At the time, students were obsessed with the Guinness Book of World Records books. This gave her an idea.

“We started it because of their obsession to get in the world record book. It was definitely an amazing experience the first time,” Katzin said.

At a football game this past fall, a senior approached Katzin and asked if they could attempt another record. It was an easy yes for Katzin since the students could run with the idea on their own.

“It was student-led both times. This was led by our High School Student Council kids and they did an amazing job.”

The event was held at the high school football field and the logistics of getting preschoolers to high schoolers in one place was quite the undertaking. Over 1,000 students and teachers were bused to the event.

To qualify for a Guinness Book of World Records , Katzin says you can go one of two routes. You can pay a high fee to have a representative come to the event, or you can recruit your own judges and wait for the final word. Rogersville had over 54 judges helping out.

They expect to hear back in the fall on the final ruling.
