ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Transportation Safety Board reports a small plane’s engine stopped producing power before it crashed in a Rocky Mount neighborhood.

Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a plane crash into a building on West Raleigh Boulevard at Paul Street in Rocky Mount.

NTSB is investigating the crash of the Cessna R172E airplane. They say their preliminary reports indicate its engine stopped producing power before the airplane struck utility lines and a bus stop.

The wreckage has been recovered after the road was shut down for much of Monday.

NTSB is the investigating agency for the crash.
