Vazquez-Barbosa voted Driscoll Children's Hospital Caller-Times Athlete of the Week

After a banner day at his home meet, the Longhorn Relays, Hebbronville senior Alejandro Vazquez-Barbosa has been voted the Driscoll Children's Hospital Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week for Aug. 21-26.

The Longhorns senior placed first in the high jump (6-foot), first in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles with a pair of personal bests.

Vazquez-Barbosa received 29,135 of the 61,160 votes cast, which was 47.6% of total votes.

Ingleside thrower Nathan Edlin was second with 24,413 votes.

Students can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.

Nominations are due each Monday by 5 p.m. and can be submitted through email at ctsports@caller.com, by messaging the Caller-Times through its Facebook page, or on Twitter @CallerSports.

Please include statistics from the week's games and any pertinent information or honors. Voting runs Tuesday through Thursday each week.
