    Police: Rockford man threatens to kill woman over vape pen, strangles her

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Damontae Halley, 22, for allegedly strangling a woman after he accused her of taking his vape pen.

    On May 6th, around 11:24 p.m., police responded to the 800 block of 15th Avenue originally for a disorderly conduct call. The victim told officials Halley and she got into an argument and left but he returned accusing her of stealing his vape.

    The suspect said he was going to kill her, grabbed her neck and strangled her for about 2 minutes, according to court records. Halley was pulled off of her by one of his friends, the victim told authorities.

    The suspect proceeded to grab her cell phone and leave in an unknown vehicle, according to court documents.

    Halley is being charged with domestic battery and aggravated domestic battery and strangulation.
