ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Brandon Sarver, 24, for allegedly threatening a couple with a knife for money for drugs.

On Monday, around 8:15 p.m., police were dispatched to the 400 block of Orchard Park Street for a domestic violence call. The female victim told police Sarver wanted money for drugs and held a knife up to his head walking closer to her.

The suspect also pushed the male victim onto the couch and took his phone from him after he said he was going to call the police, according to officials. The man chased Sarver into the kitchen to get his phone when the suspect grabbed a knife causing him to retreat to his room, police said.

The male victim said he thought the suspect was going to stab him through the door, according to court documents. The man held the door shut but Sarver partially broke the door, officials said.

According to authorities, Sarver cut his wrist and was holding the knife to his own throat. The male victim said he was not going to stop him, causing the suspect to become upset, police said.

Sarver ran out of the house, was found by police at Mulberry Street and Oakley Avenue and transported to UW Health for cuts to his arm.

The suspect is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault using a deadly weapon, domestic battery and bodily harm, interfering with reporting domestic violence and criminal damage to property.

Not enough is done for those suffering mental health problems or addicts. Of course addicts most addicts are responsible for their own addiction, some are not. Regardless, jails or hospitals are not equipped long term to help those with addictions. The courts should mandate at least 6 months inpatient dual therapy at a successful rehab site and have the patients work off their costs to the rehab center. Alcohol companies and drug companies should be required to pay a huge percentage into these facilities. And, better halfway house systems need to be provided for them to be released into before they can truly be given the freedoms of rejoining society freely. The clients also need to be placed in cities or areas that are far away from where the addicts used to frequent to get their fixes. And, they should not only be required to attend 2 years or more of AA, but also continue intense therapy for the same amount of time.

they should place all these criminal drug addicts on a island and play survival, innocent people shouldn't suffer for others that chose drugs as an escape and that continue to stay on drugs.
