ROCK HILL, S.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Several volunteers packed fresh farm-to-table hot food at the “Farmacy” Tuesday afternoon for those still without power, food, and water in the south side of Rock Hill.

Jonathan Nazeer, who runs Victory Gardens, put together a food drive to make sure that everyone, especially the older folks in the neighborhood were being taken care of following Saturday’s storms that ravaged the area.

“We asked for 20 volunteers to come out and help out and you see what we have here today,” Nazeer said. But he didn’t expect the community to show up like it did.

Rob Masone, the five-star chef at The Kounter in town cooked fresh produce and meat from Victory Gardens for the public.

City officials and some players from the Rock Hill High School wide receiver room also came out to help get bigger items into people’s cars and serve food.

Even Rock Hill native and new Panthers linebacker Jadeveon Clowney came to support.

One older gentleman there said he was about a quarter-mile from the damage, and his property was spared. So he had to come out and help others who weren’t as lucky.

“My wife was saying, what can we do to make a difference? And today I’m making a difference because I’m going to take some people some food. I’m going to take some paper towels and stuff they need that other people can’t get out,” said Garfield Sanders.

“Seeing how many houses like we’re out here that didn’t have any like power, some of them were like completely destroyed,” said 12-year-old Serenity Graham. “There was big trees covering their houses. There was a whole bunch of cars that were crushed, so I was sad and I didn’t know there was going to be a lot of people here.”

As of Tuesday night, there were still 153 customers without power.

“I think that that’s what’s special about Rock Hill and more specifically about folks on the south side that when a call goes out, the community answers and you see the result of that,” Nazeer said.
