The Primetime 585 Spotlight Team is the Irondequoit Boys Lacrosse Team.

The Eagles went 3-0 last week, outscoring their opponents 37-10. They are now 9-2 and have won six games in a row.

Last Tuesday, Irondequoit defeated Pittsford 7-6 in a thriller! Cooper Moore led the Eagles with three goals. Dylan Carey added two goals while Jonah Carrier, Oliver Grisdale and Colin Giudice each chipped in a goal.

“It’s a pleasure to coach these guys. We tell them constantly,” head coach Aaron Bottazzo said. “We got a special group of guys. It doesn’t come around often. You have to take advantage of every opportunity you get to play because the days are numbered and tomorrow is not promised.”

Goalie Sven Habitzreuther and the defense held it down against Pittsford, allowing only six goals on 13 shots.

The Eagles’ last loss was a 10-5 defeat against Spencerport. Since then, IQ has not allowed any team to score more than six during their six game winning streak. The Eagles say that Spencerport loss was a catalyst for the win streak.

“I think we started off slow. We were letting in too many goals,” junior defenseman Alex Sherman said. “We just got it together after that Spencerport loss.”

Irondequoit is on a roll and they are a team that will be in contention for a Sectional title.

“It feels pretty good. We know every game we’re going to get every team’s best chance at us,” sophomore attackman Cooper Moore said. “We come out here ready to play.”

When asked if Irondequoit welcomes those big challenges every game, Moore said succinctly, “We like the competition.”

Congratulations to the Irondequoit players and Coach Bottazzo for being the Primetime 585, News 8 Team of the Week!
