All-Greater Rochester Winter Teams highlight remarkable girls and boys athletes

Dear D&C Subscribers --

Three times each school year, the Democrat and Chronicle celebrates the finest girls and boys athletes in Section 5.

The All-Greater Rochester teams are a longstanding and proud tradition at the newspaper.

This school year, key to the AGR team features for autumn, winter (published last week) and spring teams are sportswriters James Johnson, Marquel Slaughter and Justin Ritzel. Our photographers, including Jamie Germano, who fashioned the awesome main collage for the main AGR winter story, contribute greatly also.

These features are popular for many reasons. First and foremost, high achievement is always noteworthy, and all of these athletes practice and participate for years to reach the level of excellence they have in their respective sports. Second, every athlete is someone's child or grandchild or neighbor; they are familiar faces in our communities.

Beyond that, taken together, the AGR selections show the richness of life in Greater Rochester. Some live in the heart of Rochester. Others live in suburban subdivisions. And still more reside in small towns or on farms.
