ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) — Canadian high pressure will expand across the Great Lakes tonight. Surface temperatures fall in the low 30s and towns in the Finger Lakes get into the 20s. There could be a hard freeze for many that would do damage to crops.

It’s cold through early Thursday, but full sunshine makes it look good. The day is spent in the 30s and 40s. Keep the skies clear going into Friday and it’s another start around the upper 20s. Afternoon highs get into the low 60s.

The weekend is far from a washout, but we will be tracking scattered showers during this period. A surface low spawning out of Colorado moves into the Great Lakes and a long warm front brushes by New York State. This brings our first round of rain showers and will set up for some warmer air. Highs are in the 60s and lows going into Sunday stay elevated, in the 50s. That is a warm launching pad for a hot Sunday as highs get well into the 70s. There’s a boundary just to the north of Rochester that will threaten showers, but most of the day is dry and warm. That boundary lifts north and we get even warmer Monday with highs in the upper 70s. It does look like afternoon showers and storms get us back to reality to finish the month.
