ROCHELLE, Ill. (WTVO) — A first-of-its-kind agricultural shipment left Rochelle on Monday, headed to a turkey farm in California.

Stockton farmer Greg Thoren oversaw the shipment of 740 tons of Certified Regenerative corn, meaning it meets a set of agricultural standards that aim to keep the soil, water, and air improved or maintained.

“My grain, I feel, with quality, nutrient density, and the quality we have, it’s all non-GMO (containing genetically modified organisms),” Thoren said. “There are various pesticides we do not use on our grain and the feed value is greater for the consumer, which again, this will be a large turkey ranch in California and they need this grain to produce higher quality turkeys, so the consumer on their end will get a higher quality product.”

Products grown using Regenified’s certified regenerative agriculture practices are marked with a Regenified seal.

Rochelle’s Intermodal Transload Center provides direct access for farmers to Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railways, streamlining how their products get to market.

Thoren’s corn will be delivered to Diestel Turkey Ranch in Sonoma, California.
