WNC high school softball power rankings Week 5: Robbinsville is No. 1

The Western North Carolina softball season has almost reached its halfway point.

Enka, Franklin, Robbinsville, and West Henderson are some of the top teams in WNC. They are a combined 25-2.

With the start of Week 5, here are the WNC high school softball power rankings.

1. Robbinsville (6-0)

Led by Tennessee signee Zoie Shuler, Robbinsville has averaged over 11 runs per game. The Black Knights also managed to put up 16 runs on Enka. Shuler has dominated, hitting for .619 with a double, two triples, a home run, eight RBIs and 12 stolen bases.

This week: vs. No. 2 Enka (Monday), at Reynolds (Wednesday), at Tellico Plains (Tenn.) (Thursday)

2. Enka (6-1)

Enka's only loss this season came at the hands of Robbinsville 16-11. The Sugar Jets, after allowing 17 runs in their first two competitions, have only allowed seven runs since then, thanks to pitchers Karly Presnell and Haley Fish.

This week: at No. 1 Robbinsville (Monday), at North Buncombe (Tuesday), at Pisgah (Thursday)

3. Franklin (7-0)

Franklin has scored over 10 runs per game, thanks to Kendall Rumans and Avery Moffitt . Rumans is hitting .692 with seven doubles, a triple, five home runs, and 18 RBIs, while Moffitt leads the team with six homers.

This week: vs. Madison (Thursday)

4. West Henderson (6-1)

West Henderson's only loss came to No. 2 Enka 13-2. The Falcons is another WNC team with an elite offense like No. 1 Robbinsville and No. 3 Franklin. They are led by Haley Littrell, Kayden Lyda and LaShea Morlu.

This week: Open

5. McDowell (4-2)

McDowell has allowed less than two runs per game in its four wins, thanks to pitcher Kinley McKinney, who has struck out 17 batters this season.

This week: at Asheville (Tuesday), at Erwin (Thursday), at R-S Central (Friday)

6. Pisgah (5-2)

Pisgah's only losses have come to No. 3 Franklin and No. 4 West Henderson. Pitchers Sadie Messer and Alyssa Smith have combined for 58 strikeouts.

This week: at Tuscola (Monday), vs. No. 2 Enka (Thursday)

7. Madison (4-2)

Outfielder Hailey Griffin has helped Madison get off to a strong start this season. The senior has recorded a triple, three home runs, and 13 RBIs.

This week: vs. Rosman (Tuesday), at Franklin (Thursday)

8. Hendersonville (4-2)

Hitters Kennedy Drake, Anna McFarling and Mary Shelton have guided Hendersonville to a 4-2 start while helping the offense tally 10 runs per game.

This week: at R-S Central (Monday), at Shelby (Wednesday)

9. Owen (6-2)

Pitchers Sophie Neal and Elly Wright have allowed opponents to score just over three runs per game for Owen. Neal has a 3-1 record and a 2.57 ERA, along with 53 strikeouts.

This week: vs. Mountain Heritage (Wednesday), at Mountain Heritage (Thursday)

10. Murphy (3-1)

Murphy has won three straight since dropping its opening game to No. 3 Franklin. During the winning streak, its offense has averaged over eight runs.

This week: vs. Andrews (Monday), at Andrews (Thursday)
