A new Idaho park opens near Boise. Here's what it offers for kids and more
A 50-acre park near the Western Idaho Fair grounds officially opened to the public Friday. It was the culmination of over five years of effort by Ada County commissioners, who celebrated the opening. In a world dominated with screens, nature has “real and measurable positive impacts,” Commissioner Rod Beck said at Friday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. Though “there was initially talk of stores, housing and other development” on the property, “this board determined to do something meaningful that would have a lasting legacy and enhance all that is good about Ada County.” The project, which cost roughly $42 million, finished ahead of schedule after mild weather allowed work to continue during the winter, Beck said. The park sits on the site of the former Les Bois Park, a racetrack that fielded horse races for decades until a 2015 law banning certain gambling machines ended live contests. In the years after, developers and officials imagined different futures for the site, like putting Garden City’s downtown at Expo Idaho, according to previous Statesman reporting. Ultimately, Ada County officials moved forward with ambitious plans for a park. (One commissioner, Tom Dayley, once said the area would be, for Idahoans, the same quality as New York’s

After closing in spring, Boise bar with ‘fantastic vibe' to reopen in larger spot
A unique, diminutive Boise bar that shuttered in June has news for former regulars. And it’s the type that will be music to their ears. The Alley Lounge , a laid-back destination focused on appreciating and listening to vinyl records, plans to open by the end of the year at 113 S. 5th St. The new space will offer twice the capacity of its original alley location, including two areas for private events. “The Alley Lounge has always been about more than a place to grab a drink. It’s about the music, the people, the stories, and the connections that happen when they all come together,” owner Marcus Hunter said in a prepared statement. “We’ve outgrown our original space, and this move gives us an opportunity to continue building on what we’ve created while staying true to the things that make The Alley Lounge special. We’re excited for what’s next.” The Alley Lounge is a place “where records are played to be enjoyed, drinks are thoughtfully selected, and good company is reason enough to stay awhile,” a press release explains. Serving beer and wine, The Alley Lounge won’t have a liquor license. But canned cocktails will be available, Hunter said
