A State Street stoplight could unlock hundreds of homes. Here's what's coming next
A major housing plan on Boise’s State Street is close to getting a long-awaited green light, thanks to a stoplight. Westlock Village emerged from development purgatory to apply for building permits in late September, reviving a 4-year-old plan to bring 256 homes to the corner of State Street and Ulmer Lane in West Boise. A key part of the project will span the intersection itself: the developer, Arizona-based Sweetwater Cos. , has agreed to build a traffic light across State to alleviate traffic and access concerns. The light should open up more than Westlock Village, too. At least 450 additional homes have yet to break ground across multiple subdivisions on and around the under-developed property that once housed Franz Witte’s Boise nursery. Westlock’s share consists of six three-story buildings with a fitness center, pool, playground and parking for 369 cars. Its 252 apartments will come in one-, two- and three-bedroom configurations, alongside four four-bedroom townhomes. All in, the 11.5-acre project is expected to cost $78 million to build, according to Corrie Brending, a project manager at the Capital City Development Corporation, Boise’s urban renewal agency. The total price tag includes about $3.6 million in public infrastructure expenses, according to the
