Memorial football proved it has championship resolve in victory over Reitz
EVANSVILLE — This was the exact scenario that Memorial coach John Hurley wanted to witness. The reasoning harkened to how this season has unfolded. The Tigers have not been tested much in the second half thus far. They've been too good — five of the six victories coming by 30-plus points — against nearly everybody on the schedule. How would Memorial, a team with championship aspirations, fare down the stretch with a big game in the balance? The answer was emphatically found on Friday, Oct. 2 at Enlow Field. Memorial delivered its loudest and biggest victory to date with a 30-27 triumph over Reitz. Flip any sequence, especially in the second half, and the result on the scoreboard possibly changes. It was that close. But the Tigers had the winning mix in the final minutes. That could prove vital in the coming weeks. From the other side: Reitz football falls short in Week 7 against Memorial More: Southwestern Indiana week 7 high school football scores, updates "This is good for us to kind of get punched in the mouth and compete," Hurley said. "We weren’t as efficient as we needed to be, but we made plays when we needed to."

Bench warrant issued for EVSC school board candidate
EVANSVILLE — A bench warrant for the arrest of EVSC school board candidate and political activist Ken Colbert was issued Friday after he failed to appear for a hearing on a charge accusing him of knowingly falsifying a candidate filing form in another election. Colbert was due to appear at 1:30 p.m. CST in Vanderburgh County Magistrate Donald R. Vowels' court for a hearing on the question of whether he would employ counsel to fight a Class A misdemeanor charge of defacing, falsifying, or destroying an election document . But according to his personal Facebook page, he posted content about state legislation and reposted a statement by Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith shortly before 2 p.m. Why?, asked Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson, whose officers would serve the warrant. Robinson told the Courier & Press he is shocked that any individual would put themselves in Colbert's situation, let alone a candidate for a school board seat.
