CDOT says US Hwy 50 bridge will open by July 4
Critical repairs to be done July 1, final repairs scheduled for fall. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has finished its critical inspections of the Middle Bridge along Highway 50 west of Gunnison for bridge safety and repair designs and hopes to have an initial phase of needed repairs done by July. Final repairs will then take place in the fall, aiming to finish before the snow flies. Limited vehicle traffic on the bridge is possible starting in early July.
Officials say U.S. 50 between Gunnison and Montrose could open for July 4th weekend
Transportation officials say the Middle Bridge over Blue Mesa Reservoir could open to limited traffic as soon as the 4th of July weekend. The bridge was closed after cracks were found in April and the closure of this portion of U.S. 50 has resulted in hours-long detours for people in the region.

Colorado National Guard engineering soldiers to assist in the Middle East
About 100 Colorado National Guard engineering soldiers headed to the Middle East this week to assist countries in mitigating conflict with Iran.An official ceremony is happening at the Montrose Pavilion Event Center on Wednesday to see members of the 947th Engineer Vertical Construction Company off to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. They will be stationed there for approximately a year as part of the Task Force Spartan in support of Operation Spartan Shield. EVCC soldiers will provide general engineering expertise to neighboring countries while improving facilities in the area. "We are a team of professionals, and I am proud to serve alongside them," said U.S. Army Capt. Evan Pitchford, 947th EVCC commander. In September 2013 during historic flooding in Boulder County, the 947th EVCC partnered up with the Colorado Department of Transportation to rebuild Highway 36 west of Lyons.

There is a slight chance for showers in the valleys on Tuesday and Wednesday, but most of the moisture will be focused in the high country.
