Rain and mountain snow will arrive this weekend

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Rain and mountain snow are growing increasingly likely for this weekend, but we’ll stay dry to end our week. Thursday will start sunny and become partly cloudy. We’ll warm from low-to-mid 40s at 7 AM to mid-to-upper 50s at noon, then to low-to-mid 60s at 4 PM. High temperatures in the afternoon will be near 65 degrees around Grand Junction, 64 degrees around Montrose, 65 degrees around Delta, 64 degrees around Cortez, and 65 degrees around Moab. Low temperatures in the morning will be near 42 degrees around Grand Junction, 36 degrees around Montrose, 37 degrees around Delta, 36 degrees around Cortez, and 45 degrees around Moab.

We’ll warm from low-to-mid 40s at 7 AM to mid-to-upper 50s at noon, then to lower 60s at 4 PM. High temperatures in the afternoon will be near 61 degrees around Grand Junction, 61 degrees around Montrose, 62 degrees around Delta, 61 degrees around Cortez, and 66 degrees around Moab. A Flood Watch is in effect until noon Friday for southern Mesa County, southwest Montrose County, Montezuma County, La Plata County, Dolores County, San Miguel County, and San Juan county in Southwest Colorado and for southern Grand County and San Juan County in eastern Utah. Excessive rain and runoff can cause flooding and flash flooding. Burn areas from wildfires over the past few years will be especially prone to extremely dangerous flash flooding and debris slides. Rivers, creeks, and streams can also be highly prone to flash flooding. Even dry creeks into which rocky canyons feed can quickly become dangerous or even deadly. DURANGO, Colo. — An active storm track returns to Colorado this week, once again favoring areas west of the Continental Divide. The risk of heavy rain and localized flooding will rise in and around the San Juan Mountains and over recent burn scars. Rainfall estimates of 1 to 3 inches look reasonable, with locally higher amounts. The heaviest precipitation is expected to begin Wednesday.
