According to the latest GasBuddy data, the national average sits at $4.42 a gallon for regular unleaded. In Tennessee drivers are getting a slight break, with the state average ticking down to $4.01, while Virginia motorists are paying more at $4.17 a gallon. But the biggest sting continues to hit commercial transport and farming. Driven by international supply strains, the national diesel average has climbed to $6.45. Truckers and farmers face severe premiums across both states, with diesel averaging $6.16 a gallon in Tennessee and soaring to $6.36 in Virginia.

Gas prices across Tennessee dropped four cents, on average, over last week. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now $4.03 which is 34 cents more expensive than one month ago and $1.31 cents more expensive than one year ago, reports AAA. This adds roughly $19 to the cost of filling a 15-gallon gas tank. AAA says the average Tennessee driver is currently paying around $60 to fill their gas tank. At this time last year, the average cost for a fill-up was around $40.

TDOT to close part of Central Pike in Wilson County to address flooding

The Tennessee Department of Transportation will fully close more than a 2-mile stretch of Central Pike in Wilson County from John Hagar Road to Earhart Road from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting Thursday, Sept. 24. The closure will enable crews to remove two older pipe culverts that go across the road and replace them with larger culverts to help channel water beneath the roadway faster, according to TDOT spokesperson Erin Zeigler. Alternate routes when Central Pike will close include: Westbound motorists can access Central Pike utilizing Earhart Road to John Hagar Road. Eastbound motorists can access Central Pike utilizing John Hagar Road to Earhart Road. Motorists traveling eastbound on Central Pike to access Chandler Road should follow the posted detour signage. Traffic will not be permitted to travel beyond Springdale Elementary School. Motorists who live on Chandler Road or within the closure limits will be directed around the “Road Closed” signage to access their residences. The work is weather-related.
