Richmond International Airport screens most passengers in a single day

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Transportation Security (TSA) officers at Richmond International Airport in Henrico County have announced that they screened its highest number of passengers in a single day in the airport’s history this week.

According to TSA, officers screened 9,857 passengers on Thursday, May 23, which beat the record of 9,711 set in 2023.

“The fact that our officers screened so many people on Thursday is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our TSA workforce,” said Robin “Chuck” Burke, TSA’s Federal Security Director for Richmond International Airport. “Holiday travel periods are always somewhat hectic, but our officers remain focused on their mission and they continue to do so in an efficient and courteous manner to ensure that travelers get to their destinations safely.”

Thursday was the second-busiest day in TSA’s history, with 2,897,417 travelers at all airports nationwide. The day with the most air travelers screened by TSA was Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023 — the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
