Police: Suspect met victim in Richmond to buy phone, robbed her at gunpoint

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Police Department is searching for a male they say met a person in Richmond to buy a phone she was selling, but instead robbed her of it at gunpoint.

According to the department, at about 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, a male suspect contacted an unidentified female about a phone she was selling on social media.

After arranging a time and a place for the sale, the two met in the 1600 block of North 35th Street. According to the department, the suspect then pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and robbed her of the phone.

The suspect is described as a thin Black male thought to be about 5’9″ tall. He was seen wearing a gray Duck Dynasty hoodie, dark jeans and white Jordans with green accents.

The department is reminding people that its officers monitor two “Safe Exchange Zones” at the following two locations:

  • 177 East Belt Blvd.
  • 2219 Chamberlayne Ave.
