Opening day is Thursday from 3:30-7:30 p.m. of a plant sale put on by horticulture students at Rice Lake High School. It will continue Friday, May 3, and again next Thursday, May 9, and Friday, May 10, all from 3:30-5 p.m. The greenhouse is located on the west side of the high school at the W-7 doors.

More than 40 students have contributed to and cared for plants raised in the horticulture class greenhouse.

"They have been responsible for planning, planting, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, creating hanging baskets and observing plants in the lab space," horticulture instructor Pete Kolpack said. "There are more than 20 different plant species and varieties available, ranging from impatiens, marigolds, geraniums, vegetative plants, peppers, tomatoes and squash."

Community members also will be able to see the Aquaponics system, where students raise lettuce and tilapia as well as several hydroponic towers.

The horticulture instructor said if schedules do not allow attending on the dates of the sale the greenhouse can be open via appointment by contacting him at kolpackp@ricelake.k12.wi.us.

Kolpack said the proceeds of this sale cover the cost of this project and may also provide leadership opportunities through the Rice Lake FFA Chapter.
