WESTPORT — Commencement may be over Greens Farms Academy, but a promising future is just beginning for its top graduates. The Class of 2024 valedictorian Zoe Monschien of Norwalk and salutatorian Azra Ozgen of Weston enjoyed the past week attending numerous activities with classmates, including the prom, a senior trip to Block Island, an awards ceremony and, finally, graduation on Friday.
Officials Dedicate John Jay High School Veterans Memorial Highway
CROSS RIVER, N.Y. - On Saturday, May 25, veterans’ advocates proudly joined Lewisboro officials, State Senator Pete Harckham, and Assemblymember Chris Burdick to officially dedicate a stretch of Route 121 as the “John Jay High School Veterans Memorial Highway.” Harckham and Burdick originally introduced legislation in July 2023 to rename the highway in front of JJHS to honor the memory of six veterans who were alumni and died in service. Trio of Bridgeport Players to Compete in Charleston at Sunday's Annual North-South Baseball Classic
A trio of Bridgeport High School players have been selected to play in Sunday’s North-South Baseball Classic at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston. BHS seniors Brody Pierce, Dylan Duvall, and Rowen Michaelis are all part of the team participating in the double header. The first game on June second begins at noon with a 30-minute break between contests.
NCHS Girls Tennis Wins State Title
The New Canaan High School varsity girls tennis team on Thursday dominated No. 1 seed Guilford 7-0 to win the Class L CIAC Finals. The state title win at Joel Barlow High School—which coincided with a CIAC title by the NCHS boys team (congratulations to coach Ben Young and his players)—was punctuated by all straight-set wins. The No. 2 seeded Rams, who’d won FCIACs over Greenwich High School last week, were led by No. 1 NCHS player Leah Zheng who won 6-0 6-0. No. 2 Aaciya Sonthonnax won 6-1 6-1, No. 3 Liza Sieghart won 6-2 6-1 and playing at No. 4 Natalia Lundberg won 6-1 6-2. The Rams also dominated in doubles: Layla Zuwiyya and Camryn Lee won 6-0 6-1, Claire Pellegrino and Christina Carr won 6-3 6-1 and Sophie Adamczyk and Lucy Bench won 6-1 6-1.
Masuk volleyball team beats Newington and Wolcott Tech to reach semis
TORRINGTON, CT — The Masuk High boys volleyball team is back in the final four following a pair of four-set wins in Class M State Tournament action. The No. 5 Panthers went on the road to Torrington and beat No. 4 Wolcott Tech 3-1 (25 -17, 23 25, 25-20, 25-20) in Saturday’s quarterfinals. Dan Ferris logged 23 kills, Michael Majersky had 16 kills and Nathan Kurkoski recorded 46 assists and five aces.
