Gainesville city manager recalls role integrating Palatka school
On a Putnam County school bus headed to Browning-Pearce Elementary School in Palatka, students stood despite two open seats. “If I sat in one place and my brother sat in a different place, which is generally how we did it, they did not want to sit with either one of us, and they stood all the way to school versus sitting next to us,” recalled Gainesville City Manager Cynthia Curry.

Gas prices dip slightly in Gainesville
Gainesville-area gas prices dropped seven cents per gallon over last week. According to Thursday’s weekly AAA gas report, the cost at the pump went from $3.61 per gallon last week to $3.54 in the Gainesville area. In Florida, the statewide average dropped two cents from $3.51 to 3.49, while the national average fell from $3.64 to $3.60.
