Cape Cod and Islands high school volleyball top five as playoffs near
I went to the Duxbury at Bourne volleyball match on Wednesday night. I was so encouraged by what I saw. Bourne did not win and lost in three sets, but what I saw was really important. Even coming into the match with one win, the Canalmen showed real fight. They fought for every point, and there was no giving up. At the end of the match, there were still smiles on the faces of the Bourne players. This team was not defeated by what happened on the court, and the leadership was strong. It was really nice to see. What was also encouraging was the crowd in the stands. The people in attendance cheered on the Canalmen, and the gym never lost energy. It was a fun atmosphere from start to finish. No matter what the team's record is, the players always deserve support. It was nice to see. Even in defeat, the Bourne team had a winning support system from their fans. Again, it was great to see. For the rankings this week, there aren't a ton of changes. The only team in the top five not to lose a match in the last week was Upper Cape. Some

Brockton schools consider building shifts to ease overcrowding
BROCKTON — Brockton Public Schools is considering major building shifts beginning the 2027-28 school year to address overcrowding in some elementary schools. The district is looking at several changes, including converting one or more middle schools into elementary or K-8 schools. The district has seen population growth at the elementary level since 2022 , though overall enrollment is down – mirroring statewide trends – because of losses at the middle and high school levels. "We're breaking at the seams at some of these elementary [schools]," School Committee member Ana Oliver said during an Oct. 20 committee meeting. Member Sandra Centeio noted seeing a gym at Brookfield Elementary School being used for both classrooms and storage space. !function(e,n,i,s){var d="InfogramEmbeds";var o=e.getElementsByTagName(n)[0];if(window[d]&&window[d].initialized)window[d].process&&window[d].process();else if(!e.getElementById(i)){var r=e.createElement(n);r.async=1,r.id=i,r.src=s,o.parentNode.insertBefore(r,o)}}(document,"script","infogram-async","https://e.infogram.com/js/dist/embed-loader-min.js"); 'Pride of Brockton': Brockton High marching band is back from pandemic Committee members urge caution Committee members counseled that a building move should not to be decided too quickly, so the district won't repeat past mistakes. School Committee member Joyce Asack said the committee should hold an additional meeting to carefully consider the decision. "I know I've sat with building moves, ones that I didn't even vote on ... and they were never the best choice," she said. "We

The ninth-seeded Patriots prevailed on penalty kicks against No. 8 Moses Brown, 1-1 (5-4), as the warm sunshine set quickly on Wasserman Field. Shane Rogers completed his team's perfect trip through the shootout with the clincher into the lower right corner, sending Quakers keeper Haven Knapp the wrong way. Eoin Soler , Wyatt Woll , Tony Pyliotis and Will Ramos all converted for Portsmouth before Rogers stepped to the spot and kept his cool. Gabe Chytka didn't need to make a save for the Patriots after Moses Brown smashed its opening attempt off the right post. Maddox Ribiero , Lane Aronian , Caleb Waring and Knapp extended the five-round proceedings to the limit by converting their kicks, with Knapp finding the right side off Chytka's hands.
