Two brothers plead guilty to drug trafficking and firearms charges

(KOAM) - Two brothers from Cass County, Missouri, have pleaded guilty in federal court to their involvement in a drug-trafficking conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms. Serjio Diaz, 39, of Belton, and Tony Diaz, 41, of Raymore, entered their pleas before U.S. District Judge Greg Kays.

According to authorities, the brothers admitted to participating in a drug trafficking conspiracy from approximately January 1, 2019, to June 22, 2021, involving heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine. The investigation revealed that the brothers were involved in multiple controlled transactions, selling significant quantities of drugs to law enforcement.

Law enforcement intercepted packages from Arizona containing methamphetamine addressed to the Diaz brothers' residences. The investigation also led to the seizure of large quantities of heroin and cocaine, along with firearms and cash, from the brothers' possessions.

Upon their arrest on June 22, 2021, officers found additional drugs, firearms, and cash at the Diaz brothers' residences. Tony Diaz, who has a prior felony conviction, was found in possession of firearms, violating federal law.

Co-defendants Maria Jasmin Lopez and Vicente Aguilera were also involved in the drug-trafficking conspiracy. Lopez pleaded guilty and was sentenced to over 11 years in federal prison, while Aguilera pleaded guilty to using a communication facility to facilitate a drug conspiracy and is awaiting sentencing.

Serjio and Tony Diaz each face a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, up to a sentence of life in federal prison without parole. Sentencing will be determined by the court based on advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors, with a hearing to be scheduled after a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
