Sioux Falls native finds rewarding role connecting students to higher education

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Regen Wiederrich, SDSU Connect coordinator at South Dakota State University. Honestly, I feel like I’d be missing out if I lived anywhere else. Growing up in Sioux Falls, I’ve always been impressed by how much our community offers for a city of its size. We consistently punch above our weight class, and the ongoing growth and momentum keep life here exciting year after year.

SF Lincoln upends Brandon Valley in SDHSAA football Week 8

Coaches usually want their leaders and elder statesmen to show up in big moments, and the Sioux Falls Lincoln football seniors did just that. Senior QB Brody Schafer threw for 239 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns, plus senior DB Dexter Johnson had two interceptions in the Patriots' 34-25 win over Brandon Valley on Friday, Oct. 16. The game was a rematch of the 2025 Class 11AAA state championship game, with Brandon Valley coming out on top. The Lynx handed the Patriots their only two losses of last season, and revenge was on the mind for the returning Lincoln players. "This was more of a revenge game than anything just based off of how the last time we played them went," Johnson said. Schafer had to battle through the game, with Brandon Valley looking to put hits on the star QB whenever possible. He was a little banged up after the game, but he said it was worth it for the win. Schafer getting hit wasn't a result of the offensive line's play. The line, which is led by senior Brendan Whiting, kept Schafer clean when he was in the pocket against a usually-dominant Brandon Valley defense and allowed

Destiny in the making? The Governor Girls are on the brink of a State Championship with Harrisburg standing in their path

One lone goal. A single goal separated the Governors from a State Championship appearance one year ago when they fell to Harrisburg in the semi-finals. Not many expected Pierre to pull off the upset in the 2025 playoffs as Harrisburg was, again, the presumptive favorite to win it all for the fourth straight year. However, Pierre went on the road on a rain-soaked night with cold temperatures and buffeting winds, and gave the Lady Tigers all they could possibly handle.
