COLFAX COUNTY, N.M. ( KRQE ) — The Colfax County Sheriff’s Office said a 71-year-old man from Colorado was stabbed and killed on Sunday morning in Colfax County.

According to the criminal complaint, deputies responded to a rest area on Interstate 25 just south of Raton, New Mexico after someone said a man had been stabbed.

Deputies learned that a couple from Colorado was on their way to Arizona when they stopped at the rest area to use the bathroom.

When the wife came out, she said she saw their vehicle gone and found her husband, David Adams, on the ground covered in blood. A New Mexico State Police officer said the car was headed toward Las Vegas and was being driven by 21-year-old Dorien Ray. Police believe Ray stabbed the man at the rest stop before stealing the couple’s car.
