Warm and windy tomorrow. Severe thunderstorms possible Wednesday.

East Texas (KLTV/KTRE) - A First Alert Weather Day remains in effect for Wednesday due to the threat of disruptive heavy rains and severe thunderstorms. Good evening, East Texas! After an active week of weather for the Lone Star State, it sure was nice to have a quiet and sunny weekend. This evening is just as quiet with mostly clear and dry skies. Temperatures will drop into the cool 50s tomorrow morning, but be prepared for another warm afternoon with highs on Monday climbing into the lower 80s thanks to some very breezy southwesterly winds and lots of sunshine. Clouds increase Monday night and will stick around throughout most of Tuesday, leading to a muggier start in the lower to middle 60s Tuesday morning before temps climb back into the lower to middle 80s with another round of breezy southerly winds. Skies will remain dry all day Monday and for most of Tuesday, but an approaching cold front will likely stall just north of I-20 by Tuesday night and could bring a few thunderstorms to our northernmost counties by Tuesday evening. These storms are not a guarantee, but should they form then they could produce some hail and stronger wind gusts. Better shots at showers and storms are expected Wednesday as this stalled cold front picks up steam and moves through East Texas throughout the day. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the majority of East Texas under a Slight Risk (Level 2/5) for severe weather, so it is important to keep an eye out for more updates to Wednesday’s storm chances. Rain ends for most Wednesday night, though some spotty shower activity could continue for Deep East Texas behind the cold front while we enjoy a brief round of mild lower to middle 70s in the afternoon. Temperatures will be quick to climb back to near 80° Friday into Saturday, then we watch for the potential for another approaching cold front on Sunday which could lead to the return for isolated showers and thunderstorms later in the day. It is May in East Texas after all. Please keep an eye on the First Alert Weather App this week. We’ll keep you posted with the latest!
