    From the Archives travels to Rancho Santa Fe for this picture of famed architect Lilian Rice looking out at Rancho Santa, circa 1926. Rice was born in National City in 1889. She became an architect and lead planner for the Rancho Santa Fe development in 1922. She worked on it into the 1930s. She is known for the Spanish-Colonial design she gave the community. Several of her buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. She died at age 49 in 1938. The San Diego Union-Tribune historical photos are provided by the San Diego History Center.
