RALEIGH, NC (LOOTPRESS) – The North Carolina General Assembly has established a $125,000 fund to support large animal veterinarians in the state. The funding, administered by the N.C. Ag Finance Authority, provides eligible veterinarians up to $25,000 to help sustain their large animal practices.

To qualify, veterinarians must practice in one of the 70 North Carolina counties with a population of 100,000 or fewer, and dedicate at least 30% of their patient care to large animals.

“Many areas of North Carolina lack access to large animal veterinary services, with some communities relying on a single practitioner within a 100-square-mile radius,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “This program aims to address that shortage by assisting veterinarians with educational loan repayment, equipment and technology purchases, or other needs as determined by the advisory committee.”

The application period runs from June 17 to August 16. Interested veterinarians can apply online at https://fs4.formsite.com/QopHZM/4llcxkovj4/signup. Detailed program information is available in the frequently asked questions.

Grant decisions will be made by the Large Animal Health Enhancement Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from the N.C. Department of Agriculture, the College of Veterinary Medicine at NC State, and the livestock industry.
