RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — For one final time this season, N.C. State Wolfpack fans flooded Hillsborough Street for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, showing support for their unforgettable runs to the Final Four.

“It was just incredible, it’s like indescribable. No one expected it and it was a great time being on campus,” said student Dylan Costin.

It was a celebration decades in the making. The women’s run to Cleveland was their second Final Four in program history and first since 1998.

Meanwhile, the men’s improbable run in both the ACC Tournament and Big Dance brought them to college basketball’s biggest stage for the first time since 1983.

“My dad, he grew up in Chapel Hill so he remembers the last championship in ’83, but it’s been a minute, so he was telling me: you’re so lucky to be on-campus during this run,” said student Kate Scheer.

The men’s Cinderella run to Phoenix had fans across the country cheering for the Pack, helping make star players like DJ Burns household names beyond Raleigh.

“Coach Keatts told DJ Burns he could be mayor, and I was like, I can be his coach,” joked Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin during the celebration.

Monday’s celebration capped off an unforgettable run for both teams Wolfpack faithful will never forget, “You feel very powerful when you go Wolf and five seconds later you’ve got the whole Belltower yelling back at you,” Scheer said.

At the end of the celebration, Mayor Baldwin proclaimed Monday N.C. State Men’s and Women’s Basketball Day in Raleigh.
