RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office just hired their first special deputy on Thursday. The new officer recently moved from Idaho to Rapid City. Edward Vawter, a 13-year-old boy, has Freeman-Sheldon syndrome, an exceptionally rare condition that impacts his face, joints, hands, and feet. He was sworn in during his ceremony and was particularly excited about one aspect of being a part of the force.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rushmore Noon Optimist Club of the Black Hills held its 2024 Respect for Law program at the Club for Boys in Rapid City.
