QUEEN ANNE- The Town of Queen Anne is holding its election on April 1. One town commissioner seat is up for election, and it’s being contested by two candidates, incumbent Phil Starkey Jr. and Elizabeth Malasky.

Moving to the Town of Queen Anne with her family in 2016, Malasky currently serves as Queen Anne public information officer.

She is a Queen Anne’s County High School graduate and attended Mount Vernon Women’s College.

Malasky noted she has experience serving in various capacities in local government across multiple states.

“My recent completion of the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance certificate program has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of governance principles, ethical standards, and effective policy-making,” she said.

If elected, Malasky said she looks to focus on transparency and expand town council outreach efforts to ensure all residents are engaged in decision making processes.

“I am dedicated to fostering an environment where participation in government is not only possible but encouraged for all,” she said.

Starkey was previously elected to the three-year town commission term in 2021 and is seeking a new term to finish up town park projects, he said.

Starkey is a member of the Queen-Anne Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company, serves on the Queen Anne’s County Parks Department and is the president of the Talbot County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, which represents all the county fire departments.

“I like giving back to the community,” he said.

If reelected Starkey wants to improve the town’s land along the river for stability and make it easier for recreation and fishing.

“I would also like to change some of our town rules making it harder for someone to convert our nice big homes into apartment buildings,” he said.

Town of Queen Anne election polls will be open April 1 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters in line at the time of closing will be allowed to vote.
