Fidelity Will Move Cryptocurrency Operations to Commonwealth Pier

Fidelity Investments is planning to move its cryptocurrency and digital assets subsidiary to a new Boston address, reported the Boston Business Journal. Fidelity Digital Assets filed last month with the federal Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to move its headquarters to the newly redeveloped space at Commonwealth Pier, at 200 Seaport Blvd. Its current headquarters is 245 Summer St., next to South Station.

New Bedford's Sunbeam Bread building clears hurdle for 37 apartments

NEW BEDFORD – A plan to convert the former Sunbeam Bread building’s second and third floors into 37 apartments has cleared a permitting hurdle. The sprawling property at 229-241 Coffin Ave. won Zoning Board of Appeals approval to make the change from storage space to apartments on Oct. 15. The bakery closed in 2005. The property’s first floor will continue to be used for commercial/retail. The proposal required a ZBA special permit determination that the benefit to the city and the neighborhood outweighs any adverse effects of the proposed use. The main benefit to the city is the housing provided , according to the owner/applicant. The initial plan included providing 16 parking spaces within a proposed interior garage area on the first floor. Developers added another 12 spots to the plan to bring the total to 28. As anyone who has taken an analogous course can tell you, the way to fix a shortage without changing demand is to increase supply, and one key way to increase supply is deregulation. In the housing market, this means removing overly restrictive zoning rules that inhibit the construction of homes. On Nov. 3, voters in Massachusetts have the opportunity to make that happen.

Green tech firm eyes Brockton for new factory

BROCKTON — The city is close to a big economic win. An innovative but well-established green tech company plans to open a factory that would bring Brockton 100 jobs. Durra Panel USA LLC uses the leftovers from wheat and rice production to make construction panels. The company touts them as a durable, eco-friendly choice that can save builders up to 32% off materials and labor costs. "It essentially replaces drywall," said Maria Giatrelis, chief revenue officer for Durra Panel USA. She and other executives from the company visited their potential Brockton home, 132 Campanelli Industrial Drive , on Monday, Oct. 26. They'd be an anchor tenant at the 300,000+ square-foot warehouse. Durra Panel would hire about 100 people Derek Layfield , founder of the Australian company that originally made Durra Panel and an advisor to the U.S. operation, said the factory would employ about 100 people when it opens. He said another 1,000 jobs might be created as support companies sprout nearby. One example: powder-coating for steel components. Brockton's labor force was a draw. "People in Brockton know how to do this," Layfield said of the various manufacturing jobs they'll need to fill. The city's location right off Route 24
