Holland pizzeria cited for 'significant build up' of debris, moisture
Each week, the Ottawa County Department of Public Health releases a round-up of recent safety inspections at restaurants, schools and other facilities. Adhering to proper safety practices is critical to preventing foodborne illness and promoting public health. The Sentinel publishes regular reports on “priority” violations — ones that could directly lead to contamination of food or increase the risk of transmitting a foodborne illness, as well as corrective measures taken. The Sentinel also reports on “priority foundation” violations — ones that could lead to a priority violation. The health department notes “core” violations, but The Sentinel only reports on those if there’s a significant accumulation at a single eatery or the inspection noted more serious violations. All reports are available at miottawa.org/health/environmental/food-services . Big Lake Brewing 13 W. Lemonjello’s Coffee serves up lattes, community in downtown Holland
"Holland In Photos," a series shot by Sentinel photographer Adam Vander Kooy, highlights the extra-ordinary happenings of your neighbors. HOLLAND — For this week’s feature, I stopped in at Lemonjello’s Coffee to experience the morning caffeine rush. I talked with owner Matthew Scott about the downtown shop’s history and the community that keeps it going. Lemonjello’s, 61 E. Ninth St., has been a downtown Holland fixture since 2003, but Scott’s business idea didn't begin in Holland. The idea took shape in the early 2000s while he was touring with a band. Scott and a former drummer developed a business plan during long drives between venues before he returned to Holland and opened Lemonjello’s in a former bakery space. More than two decades later, Lemonjello’s remains built around its regulars. Daily customers, former Holland residents and Hope College alumni return whenever they're back in town. The shop has become a familiar place to gather, and Scott is seeing a second generation of customers as the children of those who visited when Lemonjello’s opened come in with friends. Lemonjello’s will host a morning DJ pop-up from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 3. A costume-optional folk night featuring local artists is planned for Oct.
