Princeton baseball off to 5-0 start

The Tigers have scored 60 runs for an average of 12 per game

The Princeton baseball team is off to a 5-0 start to begin the 2024 season thanks in large part to the Tigers offense, which has scored at least six runs in all four games.

Princeton has scored 52 runs, averaging 13 per game, while giving up 12, or an average of 3 per game. The Tigers run differential is +40. Princeton is 3-0 against Mississippi 8 conference opponents and 1-0 against non-conference opponents. On Monday, April 15, the Tigers defeated Monticello (2-2, 2-2) 8-2 at Solehim Field in Princeton.On Saturday, April 13, Princeton defeated Sauk Rapids-Rice (0-3, 0-2) 6-5 after holding off the Storm, which trailed 6-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. The Tigers were led offensively by senior designated hitter Tyler Peters, who had one hit and two RBIs. On the mound, sophomore Nolan Peters earned the win after throwing 5.1 innings. Peters allowed three hits, four runs and two walks and struck out six. Senior Will Peterson pitched 1.2 innings in relief and allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout and no walks.

Tigers demolish Zimmerman 24-2

Princeton’s offense came to play against Zimmerman, as the Tigers crushed the Thunder (0-3, 0-3) 24-2 on Friday, April 12, in Zimmerman. Five different Tigers had multiple RBIs. Junior pitcher-second baseman Lane Olson had three hits and four RBIs. All four came on a third-inning, grand-slam home run. Senior catcher Eli Gibbs, senior left fielder Lucas Olson and Tyler Peters each had three RBIs, while senior Niko Bratulich had two. The Tigers scored in each of the five innings of play, including a 12-run outburst in the third inning. Lane Olson earned the win, as he threw two innings, allowing two runs and two hits while striking out two Thunder batters. Senior Andrew Schroeder threw three innings of no-run baseball, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three.

Princeton comes back from 5-0 down to beat Cambridge-Isanti on opening day

Trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, Princeton rallied for a 6-5 win over Big Lake (1-2, 1-2) on Tuesday, April 9, at Solheim Field with one run in the fourth inning, four in the sixth and one in the seventh. Nolan Peters, Tyler Peters and Will Peterson each had one RBI. Peterson earned the win, allowing no runs nor hits nor walks.

Player of the Week

Lane Olson had seven RBIs and seven hits during the two-game stretch against Big Lake and Zimmerman.

The Tigers visit Chisago Lakes for a matchup with the Wildcats on Thursday, April 18, at 4:30 p.m. Princeton hosts Milaca (0-1, 0-1) on Thursday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m. at Solheim Field.
