PRESTONSBURG, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Faith in humanity has been restored after a musician’s prized possession ended up in a Connecticut pawnshop.

Nicholas Jamerson, a Prestonsburg native, is a veteran touring musician between his time in Sundy Best as well as Nicholas Jamerson and the Morning Jays. Jamerson had been on the road when he realized his guitar was gone between the hustle and bustle.

“We were loading out of our gig in Harvard Square when one of the crew asked, ‘Where’s the blue Calton?’ My guitar case is blue; Calton is the brand. I said, ‘I don’t know; I guess I haven’t seen it today,’” Jamerson said.

On March 15, Jamerson played at Cafe Wha? in New York City and stayed at an Airbnb in New Haven. After some calls to the venue and the Airbnb, he was left empty-handed. But what happened to the Martin HD28 remained a mystery.

“So I was left feeling pretty silly. Had the guitar been stolen off the streets of New York? I had nothing in the case, saying it belonged to me,” Jamerson said. “There was nothing more I could do, and I still had a couple of weeks’ worth of shows in front of me. So I just had to let it go.”

According to the tour schedule, Jamerson was due to play in five other states: Massachusetts, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, and back to Kentucky.

“Fast forward to a couple of days ago, I get a message on Instagram asking me if I had lost my guitar. Mind you, I never made any sort of post about it. I couldn’t find any pictures of my case on my phone and was maybe just in some sort of denial,” Jamerson said. “So I replied, ‘Yes, how did you know?’”

Jamerson said the message came from a pawnshop employee in Connecticut.

“He said he had never reached out to anyone in the 10-plus years of working there, but there was just something about this guitar that he knew it meant something to someone,” Jamerson said.

He said the only identifying factors that indicated that the guitar belonged to him were the Nicholas Jamerson and his sister’s Emily Jamerson stickers. After some quick digging to find photos that tied the guitar back to Jamerson, he was able to track down the guitar’s owner.

“He was able to locate me. I’m honestly still in shock,” Jamerson said.

Shortly after, the pawnshop shipped Jamerson’s guitar to him.

“There are good people in this world, and miracles do happen,” Jamerson said.
