Braeden Carrington already elevates Wisconsin basketball in fifth year

MADISON – Braeden Carrington was in his element late in Wisconsin basketball ’s season opener. The 6-foot-5 guard raised his arms to fire up the Kohl Center crowd while on the defensive end, a few seconds after his second 3-pointer of the night and about 25 seconds before his next momentum-shifting stepback 3-pointer. It was an obvious spark in the Badgers ’ relatively narrow 75-68 win over Denver , and it was an unexpected one when looking at the big picture. Carrington’s 15-point performance followed a summer where his only path to a college basketball court would be via a lawsuit against the NCAA. That worked – at least for now – after a judge granted a preliminary injunction in October. “Obviously I thought last year was my last year of college, so coming back and being able to play here for one more year, it’s amazing,” Carrington said after starting in the Denver game. “And to have a big impact this year obviously feels good.” That stretch in the second half of the Denver game showcased in many ways what Carrington’s late return can do for the Badgers. Carrington’s 3-point shooting is an obvious plus after he hit 40.2%
