It was a busy week for the Poynette softball team, as the Pumas won four of six games.

As reported earlier, the Pumas (11-3 overall, 3-2 in league play) downed Columbus 11-1 in five innings on Tuesday, April 23, rebounding from a 2-0 loss to Capitol North Conference-leading Lodi on Monday, April 22.

Splitting a doubleheader with Lakeside Lutheran, Poynette pounded the Warriors 16-1 and then turned out and lost 4-3 on Thursday, April 25.

Grace Gavinski had a monster game in Poynette’s win over Lakeside, blasting three home runs to go 3-for-5 with seven RBIs. Morgan Gunderson went 2-for-3 at the plate and struck out nine in the pitcher’s circle, scattering four hits.

Kieghtan Rank pitched Lakeside to victory in the nightcap, as the Warriors had to go nine innings to defeat the Pumas.

Poynette’s pitching propelled the Pumas to victories over Merrill and Kewaskum at the Portage Invitational on Saturday. Gunderson got the win in the Pumas’ 4-0 win over Merrill, while Kassidy McCaffery turned in a strong performance in a 2-1 tight battle with Kewaskum.
