Port St. Joe getting set for rematch with Bozeman in Saturday's 1A Region Final
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -It is a big game ahead at Bozeman come Saturday night, the 1A Region Final between Port St. Joe and Bozeman baseball teams. The winner of that one heads down to the state finals next week in Fort Myers. Port St. Joe head coach Ashley Summerlin working to prepare his team, though Friday, because of power outages from a line of early morning storms, there was no school and no practice. Still no problem for the Tiger Sharks who are now 20-6 after the first round playoff win Tuesday at Cottondale, 7-4 the final in that one. And again, the Sharks are a win away from making it back to the state finals, where in 2018 they won the 1A state title. Coach Summerlin says making it this far down the road this season, very gratifying, especially for his current group of seniors. ”You know we’ve got a group of kids that have been playing together as far as our core group, they’ve been starting since they were 10th graders. And that group is seniors now. You know this is not just a one season deal for us to be where we are. This is three years in the making for this group. You know they were able to win a district championship as 10th graders, and make the playoffs. They were really close last year in a 1-0 loss to Chipley that really could have went either way. And to be where they are right now we’re just very blessed and fortunate to be where we are with the kids we have.”
