HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Dozens of area teams competed at the NSAA State Track & Field Championships in Classes C and D on Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke. The Kearney Catholic Stars won the Class C girls team title with 86.5 points. Sophomore Hazel Haarberg won two golds, 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Sophomore Alyssa Onnen won two golds, pole vault and triple jump. The Stars also won the 4x100 meter relay.

AHS celebrates Class of 2024, entering 'unchartered waters' -- Amidst the pomp and circumstance of Saturday’s graduation ceremony there were nuggets of wisdom shared for the 92 honorees dressed in black robes and white sashes, as well as a gym full of family, friends and educators who helped the Aurora High School graduates reach this milestone day.

Aurora High School’s Class of 2024 celebrated in full May 8th for the district’s annual honors convocation. Seniors here posed displaying t-shirts indicative of their post-grad plans. Colleges and post-high school careers selected by the Huskies include Bryan College of Health Sciences, Capital Beauty School, Central Community College, Chadron State College, Concordia University, Creighton University, Doane University, Fort Hays State University, the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Northeast Community College, Peru State College, South Dakota State University, Southeast Community College, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Wayne State College. The Huskies also have two students enlisting in the United States Army, one student enlisting in the United States Air Force, and one student attending the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The district’s four foreign exchange students were also recognized as well as four students who will be going directly to work upon graduation. York County Sheriff’s Office identifies three killed in crash at Highway 81/Highway 34 east junction in York
YORK, Neb. (KOLN) - The York County Sheriff’s Office identified the three people killed in a crash at the Highway 81/Highway 34 East Junction in York Friday night. Deputies received multiple reports of a crash between a semi-truck and a SUV at 8:30 p.m. According to the sheriff’s office, 62-year-old Randall Wheeler and 69-year-old Janniee Wheeler of York, and 70-year-old Rita Beins of Lincoln, occupants of the SUV, were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth occupant of the SUV, along with two occupants in the semi-truck, were transported to York General Hospital for injuries sustained during the crash.
Two arrested after drugs and weapons located during traffic stop
YORK COUNTY- York County Sheriff’s Office located methamphetamine and weapons during a traffic stop last week. According to the YCSO, on May 9, at 11:21 p.m., a YCSO sergeant performed a traffic stop on a vehicle on Interstate 80 near York for several traffics violation. During the stop the sergeant developed a reasonable suspicion of criminal activity. A Police Service Dog was deployed and indicated the odor of controlled substance. A vehicle search revealed two pounds of methamphetamine, several knives and drug paraphernalia.
