'It's confusing': Restaurant owner fined for child labor violations despite following state law
POLK CITY, Iowa (KCCI) -- One Iowa restaurant owner fined for child labor violations says he didn't know he was doing anything wrong. Jason Schomer, the owner of Buoy's Waterfront Bar and Grill on Saylorville Lake, said he got a call from the U.S. Department of Labor in July 2023. The caller said a former worker of Schomer's made the department aware of the restaurant's hiring of 14- and 15-year-olds.
Clive celebrates rebuilding of a playground destroyed by arson with an ice cream social
Clive is reopening a new and improved playground that was destroyed last year by arson. Stonegate Park's playground reopened at the end of May, according to the city's website, but the city is celebrating the reopening at 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 17 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and ice cream social.
