Buc-ee’s, famous for Texas-sized travel centers, confirms pursuit in Kansas City, Kansas
The Kansas Speedway might get a new gas station — one with scores of fuel pumps and thousands of square feet in retail space. At least that’s the type of development Buc-ee’s, a Texas-based chain, is known to build. On Friday, the company confirmed a new travel center is eyed on the western end of Kansas City, Kansas, two weeks after news of the massively popular company’s interest first broke.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - With summer-like weather, there is plenty to get out and do around Kansas City this weekend. Kelce Jam is this Saturday, May 18 from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. Tickets are almost sold out but can still be purchased here. The event will take place at Azura Amphitheater in Bonner Springs. Artists performing at the event include Lil Wayne, Diplo, 2 Chainz, Irie and E-V. Food and Jim Beam cocktails will be available at the event. More information can be found by going to kelcejam.com.

Parkville sees new restaurants and businesses
Downtown Parkville has a new restaurant and another on the way. Prima Facie Bistro and Market plans a summer opening at 12 E. First St., in a former bank building. The bistro will seat about 150 people with three private dining rooms (one in an old vault, one on a mezzanine level overlooking the dining room), a large bar and patio. It will have a chef-inspired, seasonal menu (steaks, seafood, salads, handmade pastas) and hand-crafted cocktails.
Platte Woods business owner sentenced to prison for tax evasion
A Platte Woods, Mo., business owner was sentenced in federal court for failing to pay more than $600,000 in federal income taxes over several years. Daniel Alan Ryan, 63, was sentenced by U.S. Magistrate Judge Jill A. Morris to one year in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Ryan to pay a $20,000 fine and to pay $626,012 in restitution, plus interest, to the IRS.

The Kearney girls soccer team extended its run through the Class 3 District 8 Tournament with a hard-fought, 2-0 win over Platte County Wednesday, May 15. Neither team was able to score through the full 40 minutes of the first half. The scoring drought continued until the first of two goals by sophomore Josie Sparks with roughly 16 minutes left in the match.

During a Wednesday meeting on May 15, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City passed an ordinance that extends the amount of time food trucks in the city can operate.
