'We're not the old Boise High': Boise gets back at district rival Capital
BOISE — No one inside the Boise High locker room had any intention of losing a third-straight game to its district rival. Capital defeated the Brave twice last season, including a 36-point win in the Southern Idaho Conference cross-divisional matchup ahead of the postseason. Boise took both of those losses personally and came out Thursday night with a point to prove. Building off of last week’s one-point win over Lake City, the Brave took it to their crosstown rival — especially in the second half — to come away with a 42-27 win at Dona Larsen Park. “We couldn’t lose three times in a row to the same team,” Boise senior running back Logan McDonald said. “It just wasn’t going to happen. We took that with excitement and we came out and the score showed it.” Following a first half that included a sluggish start on both sides in the first quarter and back-to-back kickoff return touchdowns in the second quarter, the Brave leaned on their star playmakers in the second half to pull away. Quarterback Wayne Bower hit Max Walters down the left sideline for an 86-yard touchdown catch on the second play of the half to extend Boise’s

PREP FOOTBALL LOOKAHEAD: First full slate of games kicks off this week
The high school football season has finally arrived. Roughly half of the state was in action last weekend in “Week 0” contests, but the first full slate of games kicks off this week, filled with top-end clashes and teams in the Treasure Valley testing themselves against out-of-state competition. Boise and Eagle were the only two 6A Southern Idaho Conference schools to begin play last week. The Brave got past Lake City narrowly at home, 14-13, while the Mustangs scored an impressive road win at Highland, 33-28. Boise starts off the week with a Thursday night showdown with district rival Capital at Dona Larsen Park. Highlighting Friday’s games is Eagle vs. Timberline in a rematch of last year’s SIC Championship game. The Wolves came into Eagle’s house and walked away with a 35-33 win on a last-second field goal to win the school’s first-ever conference title. The Mustangs will be looking to avenge last season’s defeat in their second game of the 2026 season. Eagle looked strong against Highland on the road as quarterback Jace Dahlgren threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns in his first career varsity start. Devin Ramsey caught eight passes for 119 yards while running back Bowen

Ridgevue begins 2026 campaign with home loss to Burley
NAMPA — The first game in the Kurt Taylor era at Ridgevue High didn’t quite go as planned. The Warhawks hosted Burley to kick off the high school football season Friday night. Coming into the season, Ridgevue was hopeful of continuing the momentum built from last year, where the program posted a 6-4 record and made the playoffs for the first time ever. Instead, Friday night’s contest saw the Warhawks hit their first road bump in the season, losing 20-19 to the Bobcats, who went the entire 2025 season without a win. A much improved Burley squad from a season ago held firm after giving up a first half lead. Ridgevue took its first lead of the game in the third quarter and had multiple chances to extend it. But the Warhawks never could, allowing the Bobcats to strike late and take it back for good. Starting on its own 45-yard line, Burley went down the field in three plays in the fourth quarter to take the lead. A long catch by Marcus Armstrong and two quarterback runs by Ty Shirley put the Bobcats up 20-19 with 5:27 remaining. Ridgevue’s next drive ended with a turnover on downs, coming up

Emmett High’s dome days may be numbered
EMMETT — Bob Hyde likes to joke that Emmett High graduates have a peculiar posture. Years of walking along the edge of classrooms with curved walls, inside one of the school’s unique dome structures, leaves students hunched to the side to avoid bumping their heads, the assistant superintendent said during a tour of the school on Monday night.
