“The fantastic thing about Space is that you are always looking back in time,” notes Randy Harrison. Randy, a native of Vandalia, has had a passion for the skies since he was 14 years old. After retirement seven years ago, Randy pursued this passion by creating his studio, Lookin’ Up Optics, which offers telescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, and accessories. He is the president of River Bend Astronomy Club, which is based out of Highland. Its next meeting is Saturday, June 1st at 7 p.m. at Salem UCC in Alhambra, IL. Randy also serves as a Standing Board Member of St. Louis Astronomical Society, which meets every third Friday of the month at Washington University. Randy finds American astronomer Carl Sagan inspiring and has read most of his writings. Sagan is often called the “gatekeeper of scientific credibility”.

Bond County Community Unit #2 High School held its Academic Awards Night on May 8. The seniors, who have worked hard all year and throughout their school careers, were presented with plaques and certificates for scholarships and achievements.
